The map of freedom in the world is partly covered by countries which are under control of military regimes, mostly governed by dictatorship. Our last century which experienced tragic moments – First and Second World Wars, Communism, genocide of societies – did not learn everybody human behaviour. There are still many countries nowadays, in which autocratic form of government is ruled by individuals. A single-party state without control of others can do everything. That’s why the democracy should be put on, because it ensures freedom of thoughts, human rights and reliable rule of law.
There are few examples of countries, in which democratic rules are not observed. For instance, North Korea is ruled by the Workers’ Party of Korea represented by Kim Jong-il. China is ruled by the Communist Party of China and the leader is Hu Jintao. In Cuba, Fidel Castro has long been a dictator until recently. Right now his brother, Raul, has been granted full power. In North Korea, China and Cuba law does not protect people against decisions of government. There are mostly left to its fate. There are oppressions, forced work for nothing, persecutions. Unfortunately, there is no place for people who have different opinions or faith, political views and different social life.
Perhaps democracy is not an ideal form of rules but it offers freedom of political expression, freedom to vote in our personal interest, freedom of speech and the free press. And that’s essential to create the state of free people in a free country which cares about its citizens.
